What do you write about?

What do you write?

I just found that I’m going to have a book published.  The culmination of years...decades worth of work.  Really, I’ve always been better at writing, creating, than editing and getting my work out there.

A few years ago, I pushed myself to start sending my short stories to magazines.  After a year or...wait...give me a second.  [Mutters]  How long have I been sending out stories to magazines?  Feels like only a couple years.

[Looks at writer’s resume.]

2015!!!

You’re kidding!

In fact, Sept of 2015 ‘Dark Dossier’ published “Red Rain” and ‘Aphelion’ published ‘Overcooked’.  Wow.  Five years ago from this very month, I started publishing in magazines.

And it was all part of a grander plan.  First, to build up a solid resume of published stories, and then to use that to get books published.  And then...well, one thing at a time.  Let’s focus on this phase of the plan.  To get books published, because I have a few.

As of September 5th, 2020, I am in the final two of the Open Contract Challenge, and--at the very least--I’ll have a Ebook published.  But...I knew nothing about marketing.  Yikes!  So, I did a deep dive into marketing.  A crash course.

Marketing is really important because there may be people out there that may love my book, but they don’t know it exists.  How to reach out to them?  Ay, there’s the rub.  There is a lot of advice and I’m not really going to share much right now because I don't know what will work.  And some might work for one person, but not another.

But, write a blog was definitely put out there.  Show people your ‘wrote skls’ and get them to check out the book.  Will it work?
[Shrugs]

I mean, what do you even write about?
